Finding A Unique Baby Name For Your Baby
Wow Factor
"Wow, what a beautiful name" or "How unusual" is what parents want to hear when they announce their baby's unique name. Although millions of parents still love Emily and Matthew, many younger and well-traveled moms and dads want to keep names that no one has ever heard of. Some are genuinely unique baby names; others can be down right funny and even absurd.
Many adults enjoy it when someone complements their name even though in most cases they had nothing to do with their unique name as a baby. They feel even more flattered if people ask if they could name someone they love the same. They feel it is a validation of their different name and like it even more. This rings true for those people who like to stand out in a crowd, they would rather have a pink winter coat than the blah black or brown and they would rather be called Apple than Elizabeth!
Conversation Starter
If Sean Penn has a son called Hopper and Gwyneth Paltrow can name her daughter Apple, why are Orange and Banana not on your list of unique baby names? Even if you're not very fond of 'fruity' names, you may choose for something different like a city or a name in a different language as you feel it is a great conversation starter for you now and for your child when he or she grows older. Dakota and Madison are very popular names that were seen only on maps perhaps twenty years ago.
Different Spelling
Even if someone does keep a traditional 'safe' name, they may change the spelling to make their baby's name unique and stand out. Madisun, Jasun and Cyndie are just a few examples.
Special Significance
At times, there could be a special significance behind the name and it may not be intended that it was only kept to wow (or confuse) people. The child may be adopted from another country and the parents may want her name to reflect her heritage. Or the parents could hail from different cultures or faiths and may want to reach middle ground when it comes to naming their child.
The unique baby name could be an amalgam of grandparents' names, the place where he or she was conceived, a special girlie name after three sons or any combination of the above. However, in order not to really freak out your child in case he or she doesn't want to be Hopper in school, keep a traditional middle name or keep a unique middle name and a classic first name, so if need be he can ask his friends to call him by what he prefers.
